Day 84: Inspiration Sunday

The lovely sisters, Megan and Nora over at two birds have launched Inspiration Monday where they circulate an inspiring look for participants to recreate or take inspiration from. Tomorrow is the first group event and Alexa Chung has been chosen for the inspirational look. I am posting my look today as tomorrow doesn't work for me, hence this is my Inspiration Sunday.

            • White T shirt: Marks and Spencer
            • Skirt: Primark
            • Cardigan: Gap
            • Black tights: Marks and Spencer
            • Shoe boots: Marks and Spencer
            • Belt: H&M
            • Necklace: Primark
            • Bag: George @Asda

Whilst I have been inspired before by individual pieces worn by someone else I have never actually attempted to recreate an entire outfit, which is surprising as it seems so obvious! I love Alexa Chung's looks and her preppy style but didn't think that our styles are particularly similar. I also have an assumption that she is so thin that what suits her won't suit me.

So here is my fairly literal attempt at the look. I don't have a blue skirt and this one is navy with a coloured pattern. I did consider turning it inside out as it might have worked showing the navy lining but instead turned it up at the waist to try and recreate the length. I don't have a rock T shirt so this plain one did the job and it was nice to get this bag out again as I haven't used it in a long while. I am not entirely convinced this look is for me but it has inspired me to maybe try to recreate a total look again and next time it might be a winner!

  2. Hey guys

It was really fun and I love your interpretation.

It keeps me going to get involved in challenges as I am on a year long clothing ban and have to create different outfits from my wardrobe each day. I was thinking about trying to create some of Vogue's identified key Spring/Summer looks from my wardrobe to see if it could be done without shopping for the season's trends.

  3. I like the way you styled the look! Your skirt is cute, you can't beat a white tee and you have every detail included down to the bag. I'm even more inspired that you are not shopping for 365 days! I took the Monday Inspiration challenge at two birds, also, and it's been interesting checking out all the different looks.

  7. Thanks Debbie

I went very literal with my look but I love your interpretation. That green cardi is a gorgeous colour.

The 365 day no shopping ban is tough but I am really starting to try new looks with the clothes I already own.

  8. Thanks for the comment Chantele

I like your take on the look and the 2 outfits but that purple skirt is a real burst of colour. I love the Mary Janes too.

I love your interpretation especially the clashing print - animal and checks. Must try that out.

  11. Hi Laura

  12. Lori, I was literal too. Like REALLY literal, but it was fun. I too have a closet bursting at the seams and although a shopping ban would be good, I just don't know if I could do it. You are so brave! I can't wait to see how things progress for you and what else you pull out of hiding for these challenges :)

  13. Thanks Nicole
Gosh you were even more literal than me. Glad to see it works without tights for the summer so maybe I can recreate it when the weather improves here. Unlikley to make it to 80, though.
The shopping ban is tough but I am definitely learning more about how to use items from my wardrobe. Next weeks Diane Kruger looks a bit of a challenge !

  15. Hello Mongs
Thanks for your comment. I really liked how you interepreted the look without copying it exactly. That skirt is beautiful and I'm sure you'll get lots more use out of it now you have rediscovered it.

    Hi Jessica Marie

Thanks for the comment. I love your summer interpretation and the checked skirt is really cute. I also love the patent shoes - very jealous. My skirt would almost do for next weeks.
