Day 180: Spring/Summer 2011 trend challenge - Fiesta

I have yet again been neglecting my Vogue challenge to create all their key Spring/Summer 2011 trends from the clothes I already have in my wardrobe, since I'm banned from shopping. If I don't get a wriggle on we'll be on to the next season.

As a reminder here are the season's key trends as identified by UK Vogue in their Spring/Summer 2011 catwalk report: colour blocking; smart sportswear; modern craft; blue; gathering; flowing; white; denim; fiesta; tangerine; eastern; layers; nude; nature; accessories; cover ups and 70s.

So far I have created these looks - denim, 70s, smart sportswear, blue, nude, cover upsnature, modern craft, nature again and colour blocking. Today I have gone for fiesta which is all about the salsa - peasant blouses, frills and passion.

            • Blouse: Marks and Spencer
            • Skirt: H&M
            • Shoes: Primark
            • Flower: H&M
            • Belt: Marks and Spencer

I was off work today and was all set for a day of sizzle under the sun and whilst I dressed the part the weather closed in and the afternoon was besieged by thunder, lightning and torrential rain of epic proportions.

This is definitely an inspired by rather than a literal take on the look and it is a bit of a tricky one to pull off for daytime. I do love the latin style but often feel more comfortable creating it when I am on holiday abroad.

I think I have proven in the case of Lori's wardrobe versus fiesta that this season's flamboyant trend can be created without a visit to the High Street.

  1. Yes, you have pulled off the fiesta profile--perhaps a colorful belt would heighten the effect even more.
